The 5 Elements of Hip- Hop Battle

The five elements of hip hop were conceptualized in 2000. In collaboration with Betaraz Productions, Organized Theory brings the two D.M.V. hip hop power houses together to form the 5 elements of hip hop. The elements consist of: B-Boys (break-dancer), Producers, DJ’s, Emcees, and Graffiti writers.

Join the masses representing skills from across the Metro D.M.V. area! You and your crew are invited to battle for the cash, the respect, and the title. DJ Scratch Rules and Regulations

* Battle must be held with either 12 or 8 DJ’s.
* All DJ’s names should be drawn from a hat to decide the order of competition.
* The promoter will appoint the timekeeper. He/She will be provided with a stopwatch and will be responsible for indicating the end of each round. The clock starts from the beginning of the first line by the competitor.
* For the first round of competition each DJ will battle once, then through to the finals each DJ will battle twice
* The length of every battle in the qualifiers is 2 minutes.
* Contestants must used equipment provided by promoter. Only vinyl/wax is permitted.
* Only the event staff, judges, host, time keeper, and the two performers of the current round are permitted on stage during each round.
* The judging panel must include three judges in total.
* Judges must make their decision as to the winner of each round independently. Each judge must write his/her choice for the winner of each round onto a piece of paper.
* There should be no discussion between the judges during the rounds. The winner of each round will not be announced until the next round.
* In the case of a round where the judges cannot reach a decision each DJ will be asked to perform an extra round. Wherever possible this process should be avoided by the judges.



Mc Battle Rules and Regulations

* Battle must be held with either 16 or 8 Emcees, no limit to the number of entrants attempting to qualify
* All Emcees names should be drawn from a hat to decide the order of competition.
* The promoter will appoint the timekeeper. He/She will be provided with a stopwatch and will be responsible for indicating the end of each round. The clock starts from the beginning of the first line spoken by the competitor.
* For the first round of competition through to the quarter finals each Emcee rhymes twice per round.
* The length of every verse in the competition is 45 seconds.
* Each Emcee must rhyme over the same beat as their opponent. i.e. Each Emcee rhymes once, over the same beat, then the beat is changed.
* Only the event staff, judges, host, time keeper, DJ and the two performers of the current round are permitted on stage during each round.
* The judging panel must include three judges in total.
* Judges must make their decision as to the winner of each round independently. Each judge must write his/her choice for the winner of each round onto a piece of paper.
* There should be no discussion between the judges during the rounds. The winner of each round will not be announced until the next round.
* In the case of a round where the judges cannot reach a decision each Emcee will be asked to perform an extra verse. Wherever possible this process should be avoided by the judges.




B-Boy Rules and Regulations

* B-boy will consist of 1 on 1 battles. Contestants may be any age or gender.
* Based on the total number of contestants entered, qualifying rounds of one minute each will be conducted to narrow the field of competition to the top ten.
* Two (2) contestants will battle at a time to determine who advances to the next round
* The top 10 selected will battle in the preliminary rounds, each lasting two minutes until the final four contestants have been chosen.
* The final four contestants will battle in the (2) semifinal rounds each three minutes to determine the top two contestants.
* The top two contestants will battle in a three (3) minute round for the “B-Boy Battle” title.
* The B-Boy Battle is not divided into age divisions. There is no age requirement.
* Physical contact in battles will not be tolerated and may result in a disqualification or a score deduction for the contestant(s).
* All music will be selected by the competition DJ.

Graffiti Rules and Regulations

* Battle must consist of at least 8 contestants.
* Canvas will be provided by Organized Theory & Betaraz Productions.
* All graffiti must be completed on provided canvas.
* All contestants must complete their mural within 2 hours.
* The judging panel must include at least three judges in total.
* Winner will be determined by judges and crowd response. Judges decision will supersede crowd response.






Producer Rules and Regulations

* Producers will be provided with the sample and drum kit. The kit will consist of: 4 snares, 4 kicks, and 4 high hats.
* The producer will have one week to construct the beat as he/she chooses. The sample will be available for download one week prior to the event date.
* Producers must use the sample and drum kits provided or will be disqualified.
* The producers are also allowed to bring two of his/her own beats to showcase in addition to the qualifying sample and drum kit.
* We encourage the sample to not be redundant. Change ups and break downs and flipping the track is encouraged.
* The judging panel must include at least three judges in total.
* Winner will be determined by judges and crowd response. Judges decision will supersede crowd response.



Entry Form and Fee submission

* $25.00 Entry fee required for each contestant
* All fees and required forms must be submitted upon entry of the event.

Exit at the Fairfax County Parkway South (Route 7100). Exit the Parkway at Braddock Road, and turn left onto Braddock Road. Take the first left past Route 123 (Ox Road) onto Roanoke River Road.* Bear right at the fork in the road. DIRECTIONS TO FAIRFAX CAMPUS (4400 University Dr.) FROM I-95 (NORTH OR SOUTH) From points north on I-95, take exit 27 (I-495 West), then follow the directions "from the Capital Beltway (I-495)." From points south on I-95, take exit 160B (Route 123 North) at Lake Ridge/Occoquan. Follow Route 123 north for approximately 15 miles to Braddock Road. Turn right on Braddock Road. Take Route 50 west to I-495 South (Capital Beltway) toward Richmond. Take exit 54, Braddock Road West (Route 620), and take the westbound fork. Follow Braddock Road West for approximately 6 miles.* Pass the first entrance to the University and turn right at the next light at Roanoke River Road.
