Watch How an iPad Was Used to Paint This Stunning Hologram

Making Future Magic: iPad light painting from Dentsu London on Vimeo.

Courtesy of Gizmodo:

This video shows, without a doubt, the most magical thing I've seen the iPad do yet: creating a series of gorgeous, twinkling holograms, captured with long exposure photography as the iPad was moved through the air. Confused? Just watch.

The video is a collaboration between Dentsu London and BERG, the latter of which is responsible for awesome projects such as BBC Dimensions and the Mag+ tablet concept.

Of this latest feat, they explain:

First we create software models of three-dimensional typography, objects and animations. We render cross sections of these models, like a virtual CAT scan, making a series of outlines of slices of each form. We play these back on the surface of the iPad as movies, and drag the iPad through the air to extrude shapes captured in long exposure photographs. Each 3D form is itself a single frame of a 3D animation, so each long exposure still is only a single image in a composite stop frame animation.
When the individual words are writhing across the screen there's barely a trace of the iPad that made them. But my favorites are the final shots, where all three words appear together and you can see the ghostly forms of the people that are moving around the space to create them. Kinda spooky, very beautiful. [BERG and Dentsu London]

Rocksmith Tokyo's Fall Lookbook Video

The Rocksmith Fall 2010 lookbook commercial "I'm the Man" takes place on an upbeat early autumn afternoon in the trains and streets of Brooklyn. Fourteen of downtown NYC's most notorious nightlife lurkers and DJs get together to do absolutely nothing.

Of the Rocksmith Fall looks featured in this commercial, some of the highlights include the Mic Check Reversible Vest and Flannel with leather detailing. The black Backwoods leather-and-french terry hoodie ties in directly with the patent-and-duck cloth Brooklyn fitted. Two graphic crew necks are featured—the Daftrock and Tokyo Megamix, which feature the standard Rocksmith front pocket. The Rock Solid Chino pants balance out V-neck teas, such as the Getto OG and Shaolin V-neck, worn under the General Steele sweater cardigan.

HDR VIDEO ACHIEVED W/ 2 CANON 5D MARK II'S!!!

This video highlights several clips we've made using our new High Dynamic Range (HDR) process. Video is captured on two Canon 5D mark II DSLRs, each capturing the exact same subject via a beam splitter. The cameras are configured so that they record different exposure values, e.g., one camera is overexposed, the other underexposed. After the footage has been recorded, we use a variety of HDR processing tools to combine the video from the two cameras, yielding the clips you see above.

HDR Video provides filmmakers with many exciting new opportunities. Not only can HDR video create interesting effects, it can also allow for even exposure where artificial lighting is unavailable or impractical. For example, when a subject is backlit, one camera could be set to properly expose the subject, the other the sky, resulting in video with perfect exposure throughout.

We will continue to develop and improve the HDR video process for better results and efficiency. For more information, check out our website sovietmontage.com.

Tim Tebow Documentary Scored By DC's Own - BLUEBRAIN!

Taken from FCTN's Vimeo Page:

In the winter of 2009, Fiction approached long-time friend and aspiring NFL quarterback Tim Tebow about making a documentary on his evolution from college superstar and national celebrity to NFL rookie. He accepted, and Fiction has had the cameras rolling on Tebow ever since. At home, on the road, in the glaring public spotlight and out of it, the result is an unprecedented in-depth look at an American icon during a period of huge professional and personal transition. This is a short preview of what’s ahead for the documentary.
